Project Description
HAND SURGERY
Surgical procedures will be performed at accredited day service facilities
Hand surgery is a branch of plastic surgery aimed at treating a wide range of hand-related problems, including fractures, tendon injuries, nerve compression, congenital malformations, and more.
Hand surgery can help restore functionality and alleviate pain, allowing patients to return to their daily activities with an improved quality of life.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a frequent condition in which the median nerve, which passes through a tunnel in the anterior part of the wrist, becomes compressed. This can cause tingling, numbness, and weakness in the hand. Surgical intervention will release the pressure on the nerve to relieve symptoms.
Hygromas or synovial cysts are non-tumorous swellings filled with synovial fluid, a lubricant within joints and tendon sheaths. They develop most frequently on the back of the wrists or at the base of the thumb, following isolated or repeated trauma. Treatment can involve aspiration of the content or, in case of severe pain (during exertion/sports) or significant cosmetic blemish, surgery.
Trigger finger, or stenosing tenosynovitis of the flexor tendons, is an inflammatory condition where tendon nodules form within the pulleys of one or more fingers, causing pain and difficulty extending the finger. Surgery can be performed to release the tendons and restore smooth movement.
Treatment is initially medical with steroid injections and, in more severe cases, surgical.
De Quervain's disease is an inflammation of the tendons that extend and move the thumb away from the hand. It causes very intense pain localized at the wrist (at the base of the thumb) during gripping movements, making the simplest daily activities difficult. It usually arises from intense exertion or prolonged work activities. Treatment is initially medical with steroid injections and then surgical, during which the abductor pollicis longing and extensor pollicis brevis tendons are released through a small incision at the wrist.
Il morbo di Dupuytren is a condition in which there is a thickening of the tissues in the palms of the hands, resulting in a buildup of scar tissue that can cause full flexion of the affected fingers, along with the presence of bothersome, palpable but painless cords. Surgery is performed to remove the scar tissue and restore normal finger function.
During the consultation, we will jointly evaluate the patient's health status, the characteristics and symptoms of the hand pathology, analyze the diagnostic tests (ultrasounds, X-rays, electromyography), and choose the most suitable surgical solution for the patient.
